I his report. is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DI:\!Cl:\ Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic :\nalvsis Group,
the CI.\ Photographic Intelligence Division (\PIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla The photographic an is for this particular re-

A bivouac and training area is located 13.6
kilometers (km) north of Nikolayev (Figure 1).
This installation covers approximately 16,000
acres and contains facilities for housing, sup-
port, and training. The training facilities are
probably utilized by ground force units in the
Nikolayev area.
The housing and support facilities include:
2 bivouac areas with an administration building
and 27 support buildings; 2 general storage
areas with 7 storage buildings, a revetted ex-
plosives storage building, and 2 possible storage
buildings; 2 explosives storage areas with 13
possible explosives storage buildings, 2 prob-
able bunkered buildings, and a support building;
and 2 vehicle parks % ith 4 vehicle sheds, a pos-
sible vehicle maintenance building, a vehicle
storage/maintenance building, and 7 support
buildings (Figure 2). Ten P dditional support
buildings are scattered throughout the training
area.
The training facilities include an athletic
field, 3 small-arms firing ranges, a wheeled-
vehicle driver-training course, 3 tracked-ve-
hicle driver-training courses, 2 tank/assault-
gun firing ranges, six 4-gun field artillery
batteries, 2 infantry field-training areas, and
a possible vehicle-mounted automatic- weapons
firing range with 2 range support buildings. An
area of unidentified ground scarring is located 25X1 D
east of the firing ranges.

served is the addition of 2 small-arms firing
ranges and an area of unidentified ground scar-
ring between
A spur from the Novaya Odessa rail line
passes through the barracks area and the main
rail line passes through the training area.
Road Service
The inst-allation is served by the all-weather
Novaya Odessa- Nikolayev highway.
Area Dl contains a multistory administra-
tion building and 20 support buildings.
Area D2 contains 7 support buildings. Prob-
able tents are visible on photographyof-
Both Areas D1 and D2 appear active on all
photographic coverage.
Area El is secured and contains 5 general
storage buildings and a revetted explosives
storage building. Scarring indicates activity
in this area.
Area E2 is secured and contains 2 storage
buildings and , 2 possible storage buildings.
This area appears abandoned.
Ammunition Storage Areas
Area F 1 is double secured and contains 11
possible explosives storage buildings and a sup-
po,rt building. This area appears active.
Area F2 is secured and contains 2 probable
bunkered buildings and 2 possible explosives
storaige buildings. No activity or change was ob-
served in this area.

A POL storage area located 7 km south
(46-57N 031-58E) contains 9 medium and 20
small POL storage tanks. -
Area H1 contains 6 support buildings.
Area H2 contains 4 support buildings.
Area J1 contains a vehicle shed (300 by 60
feet), 3 vehicle sheds (each 110 by 35 feet),
a possible vehicle maintenance building (150
by 60 feet), and 5 support buildings.
Area J2 contains a vehicle storage/mainte-
nance building (150 by 50 feet) and 2 support
buildings.
Both Area J 1 and J2 appear active on all
photographic coverage.
Area K is an athletic field which appears
active.
Small-Arms Firing Ranges
Area LI is a small-arms firing range
measuring 660 by 50 feet.
Area. . L2 is a small-arnis -firing range
measuring 500 by 120 feet.
Area L3 is a small-arms firing range
measuring 250 by 90 feet. This range is
visible only on photography of
and is apparently under construction.
Driver-Training Areas
Area 1\71 is a wheeled-vehicle driver-
training area with 3 figure-8 courses. This
25X1 D facility appears inactive on
coverage and is not discernible on any earlier
photography.
Areas N12, M3, and 1\14 are all tracked-
vehicle driver:-training courses. Areas M2
and 1\13 appear active on all photographic cover-
age. Area M4 appears active on all coverage
Area N1 is a 4,000-foot range with 8 firing
lanes (tiro 2,240'feet long, three 1,760 feet long,
and three 1,440 feet long) and 8 moving-target
runs. Two range support buildings are on the
static firing line.
Area N2 is a 3,520-foot firing range with 2
support buildings. This facility consists of 6
parallel ground scars extending from a static
firing line to a series of possible stationary
targets which appear to be bunkered.
Artillery Emplacements (Batteries)
Six field artillery batteries (Areas Q1-Q6)
each with 4 firing positions are first discerni-
ble on photography of Activity at 25X1 D
these sites is undetermined.
Areas R1 and R2 are infantry field train-
ing areas which contain a series of personnel
trenches and light vehicle tracks.
Special Training Facilities
Area S is a possible vehicle-mounted auto-
matic-weapons firing range with 2 range sup-
port buildings. Numerous straight ground scars
extend from a static firing line through a total
of 14 probable moving-target runs.
Area 1 contains 6 parallel ground scars.
This area is isolated from the rest of the train-
in activity and its function is undetermined.
