This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a Panel. The series is being
coordiriated, published--and disseminated by NPIG-: The photographic---:-
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center lPla (Dl.\). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1 P l a.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities- observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities, are as
follows: (.A) railroad service, (13) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (1---) storage areas. (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (II) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage 'maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(1.) small arms firing ranges, (\l) driver training areas, (N) tank'
assault gun firing ranges, P) alectory firingranges,(Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) ntry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or -courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

An ammunition storage area is located
approximately 13.9 kilometers (km)north-north-
west of the Rostov Railroad Bridge over the Don
River It is north of the
complex of small military installations located
within- the city of Rostov, Headquarters of the
North Caucasus Military District (Figure 1).
The installation occupies approximately 375
acres and contains 31 buildings including 16
munitions storage, 2 possible munitions storage
under construction, I administration, 1 bar-
racks, I probable security, and 12 general pur
pose. In addition, there are 6 guard towers at
the south, West, and north perimeters (Figures
2 and 3).

One building has been removed, 2 have been
buried, and 2 appear to be under construction.
This ammunition storage area probably
serves Rostov Northwest Airfield, but may also
serve as munitions storage for the army in-
stallations, within the city which generally lack
such a facility.
A single track spur from the Rostov-
Taganrog rail line enters the area.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas

building, I barracks, and 12 general-purpose
buildings.
Area F contains 3 reverted 200- by 55-
foot munitions buildings, 7 reverted 100- by
20-foot -munitions buildings (4 buried), 6 re-
vetted 40- by 20-foot munitions storage build-
$ngs (2 buried), and 2 reverted 20- by 20-foot
possible munitions storage buildings under con-
struction.
Six-guard towers are located near the
outer fences.
