The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1P1a (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not dbserved both its title -find letter designator are omitted in the report. Titles- and letter designators for the various facilities are as follows: (A) railroad service, (H- road service, .(C) landing strips, (D) administrative and troop housing areas, (1:) storage areas. MI, TOP SECRET RUFF Handle Via 'TALENT-KEYHOLE Control System Only A training area is located approximately 8 kilometers (km) south of Kaunas and im- mediately south of a single-track rail line running between Kaunas and Kazly Ruda (Fig- ure 1). The training area covers approximately 8 square km and is probably utilized by the army units stationed in Kaunas. The training area includes a section with approximately 42 tents, a small secured tract with 4 buildings, a flat-trajectory range with 4 moving targets, and an unidentified. area (Figure 2). - KEYHOLE missions have covered this area since The moving targets were under construction in and the unidentified area was first noted in - The installation appears to be under construction and not used during the winter months. DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION A rail line passes just north of the instal- lation at the northern portion. Area D is a tent area with approximately 42 tents and 2 support buildings. Area H is probably fenced and contains 4 unidentified buildings. Trackage indicates the area is not used. Area P is a 3,00-foot flat-trajectory firing range with 4 moving targets. The area contains a control building and 2 control towers. A probable old range is in the southern part of this range.
