The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the N'PIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When -a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips, (D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am- munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields, (L) small arms firing ranges, (NI). driver training areas, (N) tank/ assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train- ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T_) unidentified facilities or tracking activity. The training area covers approximately 6,480 acres and includes 2 tank/assault-gun firing ranges, 3 probable wheeled-vehicle mounted-automatic-weapons firing ranges, 5 figure-8 - wheeled- vehicle driver-training courses, 2 closed-circuit tracked-vehicle dri- ver-training courses, I closed-circuit wheeled- vehicle driver-training course, numerous per- sonnel trenches, 4 administration buildings, 7 barracks, 6 officers quarters, 3 bivouac areas, 25 storage buildings, 75 support buildings, 4" revetted ammunition storage buildings, 10 probable ammunition storage buildings, and 4 athletic fields (Figure 2). The training area was covered on TALENT photography - and KEYHOLE missions from No significant changes were observed from A high level of activity was observed on all coverage. The Odessa-Sychavka highway passes through the southern section of this area. Area Dl contains I administration building, 2 barracks, 6 officers quarters, I bivouac area, 8 storage buildings, and 12 support buildings. Area D2 contains 1 administration building, 2 barracks, I bivouac area, 6 storage buildings, and 11 support buildings. Area D3 contains I administration building, 1 barracks, 1 bivouac area, 7 storage buildings, and 9 support buildings. Area D4 contains 1 administration build- ing, 2 barracks, and 7 support buildings. Area E contains .4 storage and 24 support buildings which appear to be old farm buildings. Walls for 2 other buildings which do not have roofs and do not appear to be under construc- tion were observed on all coverage. Area F1 contains 3 revetted ammunition storage buildings. Area F2 contains I revetted ammunition storage building and 10 probable ammunition storage buildings. . Twelve support buildings are scattered throughout the training area. The areas designated K are athletic fields. Areas Ml, 2, and 6 are figure-8 wheeled- vehicle driver-training courses. Areas M3 and 4 are closed-circuit tracked- vehicle- driver-training courses. Area M5 contains a closed-circuit wheeled- vehicle driver-training course and 2 figure-8 wheeled-vehicle driver-training courses. Area R2 contains numerous personnel Range NI is 3,600 feet long with 6 moving target runs. Seven, fire control towers are located on the static firing line. Range N2 is 4,400 feet long with three 2,600-foot lanes and 4 moving target runs. A fire control tower is located on the static fi-ring line. TOP SECRET CHESS RUFF Range SI is probably used for automatic weapons mounted on wheeled vehicles. The range has 2 firing loops and 6 moving target runs. Maximum firing distance is 2,500 feet. Range S2 is probably used for automatic weapons mounted on wheeled vehicles. The range has 1 moving target run and a maximum firing distance of 980 feet. Range S3 is probably used for automatic weapons mounted on wheeled vehicles. The range uses the moving target runs for Ni but probably uses only the 2 closest targets.
