T:..,:fIAj$ Febice r u"z c-Aitr* hpollOED _~ Attachment to GMD/PAG/M-90-65 ted, 11 June 1965 25X1A The Lu-shun-kou Complex, China is located on the southern coast or the Liao-tung Pan-tao (pen._tn_sUl~ which extends between the Po Hoi (G of Chih-li) and. the Korean Bay at 38-48N 121-16E. This area is also own as Port Arthur. The port omplex is located along the southwestern coast of the urban 25X1A area and is di ded in 3 separate s? the Naval Base and Shipyard 25X1A the Submarine Base and the Port Facilities. This report will deal only with these units oft a port complex and will make no attempt to include either the area coastal defense, installations or surrounding naval activity. Only those vessels, not thougbtto be assigned to these bases, will have notations under the status column. All other vessels will b assumed to be in an operational status and home ported here.- The port facilities (Figure 2) are located along the northeastern shore of Hsi Chiang (Bay) and consist of 2 piers, 1 L-Head pier, 1 sm tl T-Head pier, 1 offshore wirf and a quayed area. One small pier was removed during the period of comparative coverage. Only vessels that have a military conotation will be listed under the port?facilities and no attempt will be made to identify the numerous tugs, yard craft and barges. Two wharves and two piers have rail and road access, however, the rail spurs appear to be utilized mainly for the supply of coal to the area rather than the transfer of stores and supplies at dockside. All remaining facilities have. road access. A possible program of harbor improvement may 25X1 D - have been taking place as of II as a dredge is located offshore from the port facilities. It can not be determined if the dredge is in operation. The Naval Base and Shipyard (Figure 3) is located on Tung-Chiang (Bay) and surrounds the bay except for the entrance/exit. Facilities consist of 2 graving docks, 3 building/repair ways, 1 pier, 1 T-Head pier, 1 mole, and numerous;quayed areas. Handling facilities consist of'3 portal Jib cranes. Five buildings and 2 rows of 5 horizontal tanks each were removed during the period of comparative coverage while 9 buildings and 2 rows of 7 horizontal tanks each were added. The horizontal tanks may be the same tanks as those removed, however, they are in a different location. 25X1 B mow: :..2_1i This base and shipyard is used almost exclusively for the repair-and modification of vessels. Expansion of facilities in this yard is in progress in the southeastern section with 6.new buildings constructed during the period of comparative coverage and large amounts of building material in open storage. The Submarine Base (Figure 4) is located along the southern coast of Hsi Chiang (Bay) and along the Lao-hu-wei Pan-tao (Peninsula). -Facilities consist of 4 piers. This base is divided into 2 areas with the operations area being on the north-coast of the peninsula and immediately adjacent to the water while the support area is located in the middle of the peninsula and connected to the operations area by road. Only minor changes have taken place at this base with'15 buildings constructed and 6 tent-like structures with possible solid walls have been removed. 25X1 B Lu-Shun-Kou Port Facilities_'(Keyed to Figure 2) un item Function 1 T-Head pier 2 Pier 3 quay 4 L-Head pier 5 Margional Wharf 30x10 (approach 10 ft) ' .17Oxk0.(approach 15 ft) 760 85x25 (approach 25 ft) 145x25 (2 approaches, 25 ft each) 80x15 25X1 25X1 D 251 D 25X1 D Location Type/Class AAria Size/Configuration/Hatches .
