PROBABLE SOLID PROPELLANT ROCKET MOTOR 0 TEST FACILITY _ The Probable Solid Propellant Rocket Motor Test Facility (Figures 2, 3, and 4) occupies an area of approximately 80 acres surrounded by both a wall and a, fence. I tie most prominent feature of the facility is an L-shaped revetment 50 feet high, the legs of which, ineasure 3:30 and 240 feet long at the apexes. ,I he revetment is sited in such a wav that it will protect the stor- age area to the southeast from shock and vibra- tion. There are 8 buildings within the .%alled area, I of which is reverted on 3 sides and may be the control building. Dimensions of the prin- cipal structures are presented in the table inset in Figure 3. Grading patterns within the area in- dicate that rail spurs will serve at least 3 of the buildings and the test nand cell. Iwo steamlines also enter the facility. Construction of this installation began be- fore at that time the south leg of the L-shaped revetment was visible. l1v to be nearly completed, and most of the buildings discernible on the most recent photographs were the I shapedirevetment appeared TOP SECRET struction activity has been concentrated in the. interior angle of the L- shaped revetment where a possible vertical test stand is under construc- tion. Figure 4 presents a perspective view of the revetment and the surrounding area of the test facility. _ This facility is similar in some ways to solid propellant rocket motor test facilities at Krasno- varsk, Perm, Sterlitamak, Biysk, and Kamensk- Shakhtinskiv. 1-5 It does not, however, include an H-shaped or a modified H-shaped probable assembly and checkout structure found at 4 of the other 5 sites. This facility also differs in that it has a large 1.-shaped revetment rather than a horizontal blast deflector. - POSSIBLE SOLID PROPELLANT ROCKET MOTOR - STORAGE AREA 1-he Possible Solid Propellant Rocket Motor Storage :\rea, over 1OO acres in area, is also secured by both a wall anda fence. It contains 7 or S storage buildings. 4 possible semiburied tanks, one small structure in a wraparound re vctment, and a newly built rectangular building considerably higher than the others item 2. Figure 3). All of the :structures except Build- ing 2 were present when the area was first: seen in The tallest building (item 2) is 05 feet high and could he used as a temperature-conditioningg structure or possibly as ashort-term storage fa - c_ility for large rocket motors. 1 hi building is similar to a building in the storage area adjacent to the Probable solid Propellants \lanufaeturing Area at Kanten;k-tihakht inskiv. 5 1'ho!ography re-yea led 1--l-011111i scarring in of I the area no\\ occupied by Building 2: cons: rue: ion of the building could be observed ill I it appeared to ha ye beencontplete 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D TOP SECRET 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1-D No other significant changes have occurred in this area. PROBABLE SOLID ROCKET PROPELLANTS MANUFACTURING SECTION The Probable Solid Rocket Propellants Man- ufacturing Section is located between the pre-ex- isting high-explosives and double-base powder manufacturing sections of the Raketa 3142 plant (Figure 2). This new section is almost identical to the Probable Solid Propellants Manufacturing Area at Kamensk-Shakhtinskiy 5 and i.s similar to the la~ger of the 2 Probable Solid Propellants Manufacturing Areas at Perm. 2 The majority of the facilities in thiscci ion Almost all of the structures in the section, -- except 2 or 3 buildings at the west side appear to have been complete q by nd these 25X1 D exceptions appeared to be essentially com lete on photography of 25X1 D revealed smoke or steam rising from 25X1 D at least one of the structures in the row of build- ings on the west side. Kemerovo appeared to have been present in although most of them were then under revealed continuing construc- tion; the high-bay section of .Building I had been erected by that time, and the entire building was apparently complete b\' of the same year. The 85- foot high bad' could e used for as - sembliug and casting large solid propellant rock et motors. FIGURE 4.
