Included here are changes which have occurred as a result of bombing raids, as well as new construction and deliberate razing. Changes noted are depicted on the photo- graphic enlargements of the ports. The following legend was utilized for ,annotating the changes: 1 Completed or newly constructed 2 Razed 0 3 Destroyed by bombing' 4 Damaged by bombing Included within this report is a small scale map (Figure 1) depicting the location of the ports under study and referencing larger scale maps (Figures 2 thru 8) of the ports. The larger scale maps outline the area covered by each photographic enlargement and reference the photographs (Figures 9 thru 21). Following is a description of changes in each of the ports under study, with references to the previously published report of that port, the large scale map, and the photographic enlargement. A. Port Wallut - 21 12N - 107.32E References - CIA/PID Project No. 30078-5, dated 4 February 1965 Map - Figure 2 _ Photograph - Figure 9 Comments - The previously reported side-haul marine railway has been completed and approximately 10 repairways have been constructed adjacent to it. Four new miscellaneous support buildings have been constructed west of the main port area. A new pier has been constructed in the inlet west of the main port area. The floating dry dock previously located near the side-haul marine railwa has been relocated in this inlet. (Date of 25X1 D information B. Haiphong - 20 5314 - 106 41E References - CIA/PID Project No. 30071-5, dated 4 February 1965 A Map - Figure 5 Photographs - Figures 13 thru 15 Comments - The storage area associated with the new offshore wharf has been improved by the addition of a new sea wall and two new buildings. A new building has been constructed south of the Public Works Pier area. The boat yard across the river from the offshore wharf is still under construction. A new building has been construct- ed since the previous report. - A new small offshore wharf has been constructed on the east edge of the main wharf area. (Approximate length - 120 feet). A new probable warehouse is under construction in the main wharf area, immediately east of the downtown ferry landing. Changes noted along the Song Tram Bac include a new small T-head pier for barge and small craft traffic, and a new admin- istration building. SECRET NO FOREIGN DISSEM 25X1 C I 1- SECRET 25X1 C NO FOREIGN DISSEN CIA IMAGERY ANALYSIS DIVISION CIA/PIR-65018 The large fabrication building in the main Haiphong shipyard has been completed, and two new buildings are being added to the complex. Two small buildings have been gazed to accommodate a new AAA site. The area between the new AAA site and the new building contains scarring which may be for further expansion. Additional changes along the Song Tram Bac include active construction on two graving docks and a newly com- pleted building adjacent to Boat Yard No. 2. Also, the large storage building under construction in the secured storage area. has been completed, and three oth r buildin s 25X1 D have been constructed. (Date of information IF. Buildings in the pier area have been either razed or damaged by bombing. Two new buildings have been constructed in the storage area northwest of the pier area, and a large T shaped build- ing'is under construction north of the port area. Although the installation has been the target of bombing, the docking facilities remain intact. A general lack of n r~iw r. activity was noted. (Date of information I G. Phuc Loi - 18 43N - 105 45E References - CIA/PID Project No. 30075-5, dated 26 January 1965 Nap-Figure 6 Photograph - Figure 17 Comments - Although four new barracks-type buildings have been construct- ed since .the previous report, the entire installation has been extensively damaged by bombing. The piers remain intact, but no attempt has-been made to repair the damaged repair yard and marine railway. A general lack of activity was noted. (Date of information Vinh POL Storage - 18 40N - 105 43E' References - CIA/PIR Project No. 30075-5, dated 26 January 1965 Map - Figure 6 Photograph - Figure 18 Comments - Although the storage tanks were very heavily damaged by bombing, the docking facilities appear to be intact. Nearby, two new buildings have been newly constructed in the associated storage area, and the barracks-type buildings have been razed since the previous report. Ben Thuy - 18 38N - 105 44E References - CIA/PID Project No. 30075-5, dated 26 January 1965 Map - Figure 6 Photographs - 19 and 20 Comments - The geographic divisions of the port adopted in the previous report are followed here, in order to facilitate reporting. Storage Area A - Four buildings razed. Storage Area B - Two of four newly constructed buildings have been damaged by bombing. Storage Area C - While one new buibding has been con- structed, four buildings have been damaged and one has been destroyed by bombing. - . Storage Area D - One building has been destroyed and four damaged by bombing, including a newly constructed building. Wharf and Storage Area E - All the major buildings in this area have been damaged or destroyed by bombing. The wharf itself was lightly damaged by bombing,-and two ships were'sunk at it's berthage. No'ettempt has been made to reactivate this facility by removing the ships. . . Storage Area F - Three buildings have been razed and most of the remaining area damaged by bombing. The rail spur serving the. port has been interdicted in this area. Power Plant - Heavily damaged by bombing. Saw Mill Area - Two new structures have been completed and four have been razed since the previous report. The mill has been damaged by bombing. Area G - Two new light bridges have been constructed east and west of the existing bridge and lock. (Date of information J. Quang Khe - 17 43N - 106 32E. References - CIA/PID Project No. 30077-5, dated 10 February 1965 Map - Figure 7 Photograph - Figure 21 Comments - The facility on the north bank of the Rao Nay has been heavily -damaged by bombing. There has been no attempt to repair the damage, and although.the pier is intact, a general lack of activity was noted. - The facility on_the.south bank of the Rao Nay has_exhibited some change in the razing of a number of buildings and the completion of five barracks-type buildings reported previously as being under construction. New structures include a new barracks-type building near the shore-line, two new buildings north of the citadel, and the newly completed causeway connecting the water-front and the citadel. A number of structures have been razed, clearing the beach north of the citadel. Although the city has sustained damaged by bombing, the only damage to the port area is adjacent to the warehouse area. (Date of information I I I I I.
