INTRODUCTION
LU-TA PORT, CHINA..
This is one of a series of reports on Com-
munist Chinese shipyards and port facilities as
obser-ved on aerial photography.
Lu-ta Port. is located on the soutYteast coast
of Liaotung Peninsula, China, ac 38-~6N 121-
37E (Figure 1). Lu-ta is also known as Talien
and Darien. - ~ -
The rail-served port is -the principal ter-
minus. of the Souttr Manchurian- Railroad. ~ An
- improved and nearly landlocked"natural harbor,
the port is separated into 4 main districts: Kan-
ching-tzu District; Hsiang-lu-chiao District,
Takbng District, ,and;Ssu-erh-kou District(Fig-
ure 2). The Lu-ta Shipyard, located west of the
Takong District, has beenYeported in this series
in NPIC Report R=17~/6~. -

Comparative analysis reflected in this re-
port is based on 6 photographic missions between

Charges in the Kan-thing-tzu, District (Fig-..
ure 3), located in the northern part of the harbor,
include the repair/reconstruction of the super-
structure on Pier A, and the addition of 4 ver-
tical POL: storage tanks.
.Changes in the Hsiang-lu-chiao District
(Figure 4), .located in the southwestern part of -
the i;arbor, include the addition of S small build-
ings in the southern sector and 8 jib cranes on
the west spier/mole. A total of approximately
63eJ,000 square feet of land has been reclaimed.
