This report is gone in a series on .Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DI.~/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence llivision (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). ,The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by tfie Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement;. R'hen a specific facility is not
observed both its title and Ietter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C)landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F') am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges; (M) 'driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
err,placements (batterie~i, (K) infantry dr combined arms, field train-

Nakhichevan Army Training Area West is
located immediately northwest of Nakhichevan
Army Barracks North (Figure 1) and covers
approximately 135 square miles.
The training facility which supports 2
military installations in Nakhichevan contains
5 tank/self-propelled gun 'ranges, 5 infantry/
maneuver areas, a flat-trajectory range, a
small-arms range, four 6-gun unoccupied AAA
positions, ten 6-gun FA emplacements, one 4-gun
Rail service is available in the southern
part of Nakhichevan.
Road Service
There 'are good secondary roads in the
installation.
Administration .and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains 9 support buildings and
15 large tent bases.
Area D2 contains 7 support buildings and 25
large tent bases.
Area D3 contains approximately 25 probable
tent bases and a support building.
Area D4 contains approxim~t8ly -50 tent
bases.
General Storage Area
?,rea E contains a long storage shed and
S warehouses.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is a small-arms firing range in
which the firing is done from trenches and
from other positions. ~
FA emplacement, approximately 17 additional
FA emplacementst a driver-training course,
approximately 115 tent bases, and. 17 support
buildings (Figure 2). -
One 'TALENT and ^ KEYHOLE missions
have covered this Brea since
the area contained only the flat-trajectory range
and scattered weapon emplacements and
trenches: All other facilities were constructed
Driver-Training Area
Area ?M is an irregularly shaped tracked-
and wheeled-vehi~e driver training course
which contains 2 support buildings, numerous
obstacles, and vehicle revetments.
Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Ranges
Areas N1 through N4 are tank/assault-
gun firing ranges. N1 is 3,000 feet in length
and has two 1,400-foot lanes, 5 moving tar=
gets and 2 support buildings. It is also used
for flat'-trajectory firing.
N2 is 4,500 feet in length and has three
2,500-foot lanes and 7 moving targets.
N3 is 4,500 feet in length and has three
2,600-foot lanes and 4 moving--targets. It is
also used for-fiat-trajectory firing.
N4 is 4,700 -feet in length and -has three
3,700-foot lanes. The firing is done at fixed
targets while moving over obstacles.
Flat-Trajectory Firing Ranges
Area P1 is a 4,300-foot flat-trajectory fir-
ing range with approximately 26 moving targets.

Area P2 is a -1,500 foot flat-trajectory
firing range with fixed targets.
Artillery Emplacements (Batteries)
Areas Q1 through Q7 are artiller}~ em-
placements.
Q1 is a FAemplacement with approximately
17 firing positions. It is unoccupied and contains
revetments for miscellaneous associated equip-
ment (not on graphic).
Q2 is an AAA emplacement with a 6-gun
firing position. It is unoccupied and includes
additional revetments for associated equipment.
Q3 is an AAA emplacement with a 6-gun
position. It is unoccupied and includes additional
revetments for associated equ-nent.
Q-1 contains two 6-gun.i~AA positions and~a
-1-gun FA position. This area also contains-
approsimately 50 vehicle revetments and
scattered personnel positions and trenches.
Q5 is a 6-gun FA position and is unoccupied.
_ Q6 is a 6-gun FA position and is unoccupied.
Q7 is a FA emplacement with eight 6-gun

R1 is an infantry training area containing
a trench system.
R2 is an infantry [raining area containing
a trench system and numerous emplacements and
positions. ~ -
I23 is an infantry training area containing
approximately 20 miscellaneous vehicle re-
~vetments and personnel positions.
R-1 is a fortified infantry training area
with numerous vehicle revetments, personnel
positions, and trench systems.
RS is an infantry training area containing
numerous personnel .trenches, positions, and
vehicle trackage.
Unidentified Facilities or Tracking Activity
Area T contains approximately 50 rec-
tangular objects (armored vehicles or tents).
