- This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a Dl.\ /CI:\ Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (\PIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1PIa.
In the interest of uniformity, the, titles and letter designators tor
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (:\) railroad service, 13) road service, (C) landing strips.
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (1-:) storage areas. F) am-
munition storage areas, (G)-P0l_ storage areas, (Ii) other buildings and
facilities, (.J) equipment storage 'maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (\l) driver training areas, (N) tank
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (IZ) infantry or combined arms field train-

Tbilisi Army Barracks Navtlug is located
in the southeast section of Tbilisi, adjacent to the
south side of the Tbilisi Railroad Station and
Classification Yards Navtlug (Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 195
acres and contains 31 administration buildings,
40 barracks, 49 storehouses, 40 vehicle main-
tenance/storage buildings, a repair facility, 3
probable machine shops, a possible heating
plant, 172 support buildings, and 19 quarters-
type buildings (Figures 2 and 3).
Comparative analysis
KEYHOLE missions from
reveals continuous activity and con-
struction of the following buildings between
one barracks, 5 storage, one
equipment maintenance, one vehicle storage,
one possible machine shop, and one support.
Area D5 contains 19 dependent quarters-
type buildings.
Four spurs from the Tbilisi Railroad system
enter the installation. The Tbilisi Railroad
Station and Classification Yards Navrlug is
adjacent to the north side of the barracks area.
The installation is served by Tbilisi city
streets.

Aircraft Landing Strips
Airfields are located 9 kilometers (km)
east, 8 km southeast, and 17 km southeast of
the installation.
Area D1 contains 5 administration buildings,
(4 multistory), 34 multistory barracks, 2 ware-
houses, and 36 support buildings.
Area D2 contains 10 administration build-
ings (9 multistory) and 11 support buildings.
Area D3-contains 8 multistory administra-
tion buildings, 13 support buildings, and a
swimming pool.
Area D4 contains a multistory headquarters,
4 administration buildings, 2 barracks, 2
possible officers quarters, a storage building.
and 8 support buildings.
Area E l contains 35 storage buildings, 27
support structures, and 1 building under
construction.
Area E2 contains 8 probable food storage
buildings (.7 possible vehicles and 4 cargo trucks
are parked in the open in - and 8
support buildings.
Area l1 contains an approximately 87,500
square foot repair shop, 3 machine shops, a
110- by =foot vehicle storage building, 3
warehouses, and 29 support buildings possibly
associated with the barracks installation. Two
cargo trucks and 10 possible vehicles were
parked in the open in -
Area J I contains 7 vehicle maintenance
buildings (five 280 by 65 feet, one 235 by 60
feet. and one 140 by 50 feet), 13 vehicle storage
buildings (four 185 by 50 feet, two 175 by 65
feet, one 240 by 45 feet, two 210 by^ feet, one

buildings, 2 barracks, and 21 support buildings.
Thirty-three possible BTR 152, 65 unidentified
vehicles, 4 cargo trucks, and 2 tanks/SP guns
were parked in the open in
Area J2 contains 3 equipment maintenance
buildings (one 215 by 65 feet with a 185- by
95-foot wing and a 325- by 55-foot wing under
construction, one 345 by 55 feet, and one 105
by 45 feet), 12 equipment storage buildings
(one 205 by 55 feet, one 475 by 55 feet, one
260 by 45 feet, one 200 by 55 feet, one 245 by
55 feet, one 205 by 55 feet, one 155 by 50 feet,
one 320 by 60 feet, one 160 by 35 feet, one 205
by 45 feet, one 205 by 35 feet, and one 110 by
45 feet), one possible heat plant and 18 support
buildings. Sixteen cargo trucks and 8 unidenti-
fied vehicles were observed in -
Area J3 contains a vehicle maintenance
building (115 by 45 feet), 3 vehicle storage
buildings (two 180 by 45 feet and one 175 by
45 feet), and a probable water tower. A cargo
truck and 10 possible vehicles partially covered
by storage sheds were observed in -
Area L is a 545- `by M-foot small-arms
firing range. ' The north end slopes downward
below ground level.
