REPORTED SUBIJARINE AT NAN CHI SHAN, CHINA
This memorandum is in reply to a request from OCI/FE for verification
of AFOIN, Reconnaissance Branch, Photo Interpretation Mission Review Re-
port 2763 dated 25 October 1954, which reported a SHCH-II type submarine
at NAN CHI SHAN, (27? 28' N, 121? 04' E). NAN CHI SHAN is one of the off-
shore islands held by Nationalist China.
The photographs used for the AFOIN report were obtained. Careful study
of the photographs resulted in the conclusion that the vessel under quest-
ion is a type of naval patrol vessel and not a submarine as originally
reported.
