PHOTOGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE MEMORANDUM
MILITARY CAMPS IN SWATOW AREA, CHINA
25X1 D A study of aerial photography reveals the
existence of several military camps in the vicinity of SWATOW, China,
These camps present an appearance of neatness, organization and
permanence. It is notable that no motor vehicles, armor, artillery
nor anti-aircraft weapons were observed near these camps. From their
general appearance and from a comparison with earlier photography of
two of these camps, it appears that all of these military camps"pTbably
were constructed within the past two years,
The major camps are indicated by numbered circles on the enclosed
map (Enclosure 1). Minor barracks installations, consistin, of 20
barracks or less, are indicated by smaller unnumbered circles. Details
of the major complexes are as follows:
3arracks Complex No. 1 (M4 15M). This complex is observed for the
25X1D first time on photo cover of PO barracks are
divided into eight groups. An unknown number of smaller support
buildings should be presumed but can not be identified because of
the small scale of photography (1 : 80,000).
Barracks Complex No. 2 (14B 1510. This carip first observed on Photo

was finally located on the small scale photos
This complex is composed of two large groups of barracks and
support buildings located about 1 mile apart. There are approximately
147 single story buildings of all types in the complete complex, About
200 of these buildings averaging 150' x 35' in size suitable for troop
barracks, Photo & closure 1 to this report shows one of the two sub-
complexes that form this site,
There are extensive training areas in conjunction with the various
barracks groups. These contain such indicators of infantry type training
as fox holes, intrenchments and obstacle courses.
There is a lack of artillery and armor,
Barracks Complex No. -3 (MB 3309). This site consists of approximately
50 buildings of recent construction, Cloud cover prevents an accurate
building count. The site has training areas adjacent that reflect
infantry type training. (See Photo Enclosure 2).
Barracks Complex To. to (4A 6296). This area is visible only on
1/80,000 scale photography. Despite this scale handicap, there are
over 150 major buildings identifiable on the photography. Probably
others are not shown by reason of a lack of photo coverage. This
appears to be a large scale, new and integrated encampment training
area,
Barracks Complex No. 5 (MB 6219). Consists of approximately 125

barracks-type buildings ranging in size from 401 by 180' to 201 x 10010
Those are aJ1 single story structures. There are, in addition, over
100 support buildings of various sizes and types,, This area was com-
pleted after (See Photo Enclosure 3).
Barracks Complex No, 6 (t413 6719). Consists of about 100 barracks-type
buildings with approximately 50 smaller buildings. There are adjacent
25X1 D training areas that reflect infantry training. Completed about
Barracks Complex No. 7 (14B 7615). This complex consists of 54 buildings
as shown on Photo Enclosure 4 to this report. There may be 10 additional
buildings obscured by cloud cover. The training area shows infantry
intrenchments as well as possible mortar and machine gun type emplacements,
The camp is probably less than two years old,
