This project, requested by D/GG, concerned the selection, on a
"crash basis", of suitable areas in the Eastern Mediterranean Area for
one or two men to remain undetected from 2 to 4 days and be evacuated
by air or sea. Basic considerations were availability of natural
cover, isolation from local populace and terrain adaptable for light
plane operations. It was assumed that the men would be self-sufficient.
Originally D/GP was asked to study aerial photographs of the Eastern
Mediterranean area as far as 250 miles inland. This area is generally
covered by WAC's 340, 341, 342, 426, 427, 446, 447, and 448. First
search revealed that much of this area was covered by tri-met photo-
graphy and virtually thousands of prints were available. Due to time
limitations D/GP suggested and D/GG agreed, that only limited areas be
studied in detail. Accordingly, the following general areas were
designated and studied:

this area due to limitations of time.
Search revealed that late date photography
over most of WAC areas 341 and 312 was available. However the time
necessary in obtaining this TOP SECRET photography precluded its use in
this study.
Due to limited time allowed, it was decided that D/GP could best
contribute by having the photo interpreter confer directly with the
requester. In this manner several meetings were held with Messrs.
and the selected areas were studied. The
conclusions were incorporated in the area analysis report. No.formal
report or graphics was made by D/GP.
