Status of Soviet SS-9 Training Sites (S)
(TSR) Conversion construction at the training silos at five of the six SS-9/SS-18 ICBM
complexes has been suspended. These training silos are at the Aleysk, Dombarovskiy, Imeni
Castello, Uzhur, and Zhangiz-Tobe ICBM Complexes. Environmental netting had been
placed over three of these training silos. At the Kartaly ICBM complex training silo, conver-
sion construction was progressing at a slow pace.
Aleysk ICBM Complex (S)
(TSR) Preconversion construction was seen at training site 14X when 25X1
rails had been constructed behind the silo door. Initial conversion construction was seen on
when the area in front of the silo was excavated. The silo door had not been removed 25X1
and no further activity had been see 25X1
Dombarovskiy ICBM Complex (S)
(TSR) Preconversion construction at training site 33X was observed
the silo door was open. Initial conversion activity was observ
the exhaust deflector, the silo door, and the silo liner had been remove from the i o.
netting material was extended over the portion of the silo which was originally
covered by the silo door, perhaps to prevent people or objects from falling into the silo. A
rigid framework supported the netting (Figure 1). No additional conversion construction ac-
tivity had been observed at this site

material was observed draped over the entire silo headworks (Figure 21 ~ a hole in 25X1
