IMAGERY INFORMATION REPORT
445D FITTING-OUT, NIKOLAYEV SHIPYARD
NORTHERN 61 KOMMUNA 445, USSR (S)
(S/WNINTEL)I Ithe 445D at Nikolayev
Shipyard 445 was seen to have the construction characteristics of a naval
auxiliary that will probably serve as a repair ship or a tender.
'SR)
The superstructure of the vessel contained up to five deck levels.
(TSR) An incomplete large gantry or crane assembly 25X1
was amidships. 25X1
This assembly was above the main deck. Addition- 25X1
ally, the assembly was above what appear to be several openings into the
lower deck.
(TSR) The ship also has several elevated mounts for probable crane
bases. Two of these are immediately in front of the probable helicopter
hangar. This bilevel helicopter hangar A raised 9.riX1
helicopter landing platform, is immediately aft of the 25X1
hangar.
(S/WNINTEL) The internal configuration of the ship allows for the
presence of shop spaces. This, added to the amount of superstructure,
gives the 445D a considerable amount of shop and crew space.
(S/WNINTEL) The slow-speed hull form, the absence of large cargo
holds, and the scarcity of weapons positions further indicate that this is
a tender or repair ship rather than a fleet logistics or replenishment
vessel.
