MAJOR CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY AT
OSTROV/GOROKHOVKA AIRFIELD, USSR (S)
11 NOVEMBER 1977 25X1
(S/WNINTEL) When seen) the runway 25X1
was being extended and nine revetted hardstands were being modified at
Ostrow/Gorokhovka Airfield, USSR.
(S/WNINTEL) A 299-meter-long runway extension and a 278-meter-long
overrun were in the early stages of construction off the north-northeast
end of the 2,913- by 70-meter runway. Modification to nine BADGER revetted
hardstands in the northeast portion of the BADGER dispersal area was seen.
The modification to each hardstand consisted of filling the sod center area
with concrete blocks.
(S/WNINTEL) In addition, the northeast part of the BADGER dispersal
taxiway was being widened. This widened portion extends from the BADGER
maintenance apron to the north-northeast end-connectin link. Initial
construction activity The taxiway 25X1
was 17 meters wide; the widened taxiway will be 28 meters. Grading activity
for two new parking/maintenance aprons and a possible new parking/mainte-
nance apron and the removal of concrete blocks from the center of the POL
truck parking apron were also observed.
(S/WNINTEL) The extension to the runway, the modification to the
hardstands, and the construction activity in the northeast part of the
BADGER dispersal area may be in preparation for the future deployment of
other types of aircraft to this airfield. The specif is types of aircraft
that will be deployed here, however, cannot yet be determined. The south-
we~t part of the BADGER dispersal area was unchanged,.and the BADGER G
regiment seen at both the airfield and the dispersal area was still present.
(TSR) Thirty-eight FITTER, one palletized FITTER, and four MOUJIK
aircraft were observed at this airfield. This was the highest number of
FITTER aircraft ever seen here and represents an increase of nine since 29
FITTER were observed on imagery of 3 March.
(S) Ostrow/Gorokhovka Airfield is a Soviet Naval Aviation airfield
subordinate to the Baltic Sea Fleet Air Force. The airfield is 4 nautical
miles southeast of Ostrow.
