SIGNIFICANCE: SHIPYARD NOSENKO 444 NIKOLAYEV. USSR KH-7 COVERAGE OF THE TWO LARGE POSSIBLE HELICOPTER LANDING SHIPS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. 2. REMARKS: A LARGE VESSEL UNDER CON- STRUCTION WAS OBSERVED AT THIS SHIPYARD. IN THIS VESSEL WAS REPORTED AS A LARGE POSSIBLE COMBATANT HULL, AND WAS LAUN- CHED AND MOVED INTO THE FITTING-OUT BASIN SOME- TIME DURING THE WINTER OF 1964-1965. II A SECOND LARGE VESSEL OF THE SAME HULL CONFIGURATION AND DIMENSIONS WAS OBSERVED ON THE SAME BUILDING WAYS ON WHICH THE FIRST PRESSED OPENING RESEMBLING A POSSIBLE HANGER BAY WAS OBSERVED IN THE STERN OF THE LARGE UN- IDENTIFIED VESSEL ON THE WAYS. THIS OPENING GIVES THE VESSELS THE APPEARANCE OF POSSIBLE HELICOPTER LANDING SHIPS. These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work. MISSION READOUT: OB - THE TWO LARGE POSSIBLE HELICOPTER LANDING SHIPS ARE IN THE SAME POSITION AS ON THE VESSEL ON THE BUILDING WAYS HAS TWO RECTANGULAR STRUCTURES FORWARD MEASURING 25 X 25 FT AND 30 X 40 FT. THIS AREA IS OBSCURED ON THE VESSEL IN THE FITTING-OUT BASIN. A CIRCULAR OBJECT n IN DIAMETER IS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE AND MAY BE A STACK OR A MOUNT FOR A RADOME. THE AFT 280 FT OF THE VESSEL REMAINS FREE OF OBSTRUCTION. AN AREA NEAR THE STERN MEASURING 45 X 90 FT MAY BE AN ELEVATOR. OVERALL DIMENSIONS ARE 620 X 110 FT. OTHER VESSELS -- ONE UGRA-CLASS AS, ONE LAMA-CLASS AEM, THREE MAYAKOVSKIY-CLASS FISH FACTORY SHIPS, TWO PEREKOP/POLTAVA-CLASS MERCHANT SHIPS (ONE ON BUILDING WAYS), ONE SMALL MERCHANT SHIP, TWO UNIDENTIFIED VESSELS ON THE BUILDING WAYS, AND ONE FLOATING DOCK.
