NOVOSIBIRSK AIRFIELD WEST IS AN IMPORTANT
MAINTENANCE BASE, AND IS ALSO USED FOR PILOT
TRAINING. THE MMAIN CONCRETE RUNWAY MEASURES
7,900 X 260 FT.
THE SOVIET E-266 AIRCRAFT WHICH ACCORD-
ING TO SOVIET ANNOUNCEMENTS SET WORLD PERFOR-
MANCE RECORDS IN APR 65, HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN
BY WESTERN OBSERVERS. HOWEVER, FROM THE LIMITED
DATA RELEASED BY THE SOVIETS, THE E-266 IS
THOUGHT TO BE A TWIN-JET, DELTA WING, HIGH AL-
TITUDE MACH 2.5 INTERCEPTOR DESIGNED BY THE
MCKOYAN DESIGN BUREAU. IT IS ESTIMATED TO
HAVE A LENGTH OF 80 FT AND A WING SPAN OF 40
FT, WITH THE TWO ENGINES MOUNTED INTERNALLY
IN THE AFT OF THE FUSELAGE. OF ALL THE NEW

SHADOW OF THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER SHOWS IT TO BE TAPERED ON BOTH THE
