November 7, 1975
In accordance with the Agreement between the Governments of the
US and USSR for Technology, signed on May 24, 1972, and as part
of the follow-up on decisions of the first meeting of the
Soviet-American Working Group in Forestry reached on September 7,
1973, in Moscow, a meeting of experts in harvesting and reforestation
was held.

1. The specialists on harvesting and reforestation met in Washington,
D.C. on October 28 and considered:
(a) The Forest Service organization.
(b) Cooperation between the USSR and the US in the area of
reforestation and afforestation including site preparation,
.planting, thinning, and breeding of woody species. In the
future it would be rational to have exchanges of specialists
and information on shelterbelts, breeding, and an exchange
of woody species seeds.
(c) Cooperation in the area of harvesting including equipment
development, field practices, and transportation of forest
crops.

A field trip was taken to inspect forest practices nd mechanization
in both reforestation and harvesting. Travel centered in and around
Raleigh, North Carolina; Gainesville, Florida; and Gulfport,
Mississippi with numerous other stops enroute.
3. The Soviet delegation expresses thanks to all the people who
helped develop and carry out the program of travel throughout
the Southeastern United States.
4. Both sides agreed that cooperation in the fields of harvesting
and reforestation is mutually beneficial and steps should be
taken to continue the exchange of scientific specialists and
information and also to define future program objectives.
5. Both sides commend the business-like and friendly atmosphere
under which the current exchanges took place in Washington, D.C.
during the travel of the delegation, and at the close-out session
in New Orleans.
The minutes are recorded and signed in New Orleans, Louisiana,
November 7, 1975, in two copies in English.
