4. REMARKS:
DUE TU THE LOW FLAP ALLUVIAL PLAINS IN THE RED
RIVEK llELTA AND T11E SLUGGISH MEANDERING STREAMS THRUUGiI-
OUT, SILTING IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IN THIS AREA, AND THE
RIVERS REQUIRE FREQUENT DREDGING. THE TYPE OF llREDGE
(CHINESE-BUILT) DEPICTED UN PHIS GRAPHIC HAS BEEN
SEEN SEVERAL TIMES IN NORTH VIETNAM. IN MAY 1966 ONE
WAS OBSERVED DREDGING A HARBOUR IN 1'HE HA TUU AREA EAST
OF HON GAI; IN JUNE 1966 A CAMOUFLAGEll BUCKET DREDGE
WAS SEEN NEAR AN LAO; ANll IN AUGUST 1966 A DREDGE OF
THIS TYPE APPEARED AT HAI PRONG SHIPYARD NO 4 llANCETTE,
THE CAMOUFLAGED CARGO FREIGHTER IS PROBABLY NUT
USUALLY STATIONED IN THIS AREA, SINCE THE CAMOUFLAGE
ll0E5 NOT APPEAR 1'O MATCH 1'HE SURROUNDINGS.
