SIGNIFICANCE: THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS CAMOUFLAGED PROBABLE AKL'S IN THE TIEN NHA AREA OF NORTH VIETNAM. 2. LOCATION: THE VESSELS ARE LOCATED 1.5 NM EAST OF TIEN NHA AND 0.6 NM PHOTOGRAPHY REVEALS FIVE 25X1 NAM (RIVER) AT UTM XJ505562. THE EXTENSIVE KEP STORAGE AREA IS LOCATED 11.6 NM NORTHWEST OF THIS AREA. 3. MISSION READOUT: CAMOUFLAGID PROBABLE AKL'S MOORED ALONG THE NORTH BANK OF THE SLUC NAM (RIVER). THE VESSELS MEASURE ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FEET IN LENGTH AND HAVE ONE LARGE HATCH FORWARD. THE AREA I1V WHICH THEY ARE MOORED IS LOCATED NEAR A MOTORABLE ROAD WHICH CONNECTS WITH NORTH VIETNAM ROUTE 13B. 4. REMARKS: NEW CARGO CARRIERS WITH SMALL CALIBER ARMAMIIVT (AKL'S) WERE FIRST SIGHTID IN NORTH VIETNAM DURING THE 1866 CHRISINfAS TRUCE, These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical worts. THESE VESSELS WERE ENGAGED IN CARGO CARRYING AND ESCORTING CARGO CARRIERS ALONG THE COAST OF NORTH VIETNAM. THE NIAXIMUM SPEED OF THE VESSELS WAS ESTIMATED TO BE 17 KTS .1 AKL'S WERE AGAIN SEEN TAKING PART IN THE 08-11 FEBRUARY TET TRUCE RESUPPLY OPERATIONS. ALTHOUGH THE EXACT NUMBER OF THE NEW CLASS OF LIGHT CARGO VESSELS NOW IN NORTH VIETNAM IS NOT KNOWN, FOURTEEN WERE PHOTOGRAPHED SIMULTANEOUSLY IN NORTH VIETNAMESE WATERS AKL'S WERE OBSERVID IN THE HAI PHONG AREA. THE AKL (LIGHT CARGO VESSEL) IS ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FEET IN LENGTH AND HAS AN APPROXIMATE BEAM WIDTH OF TWENTY FEET. THE LARGE SINGLE HATCH LOCATED IN THE WELL DECK FORWARD OF THE SUPER- ARMAMENT CONSISTS 25X1 UTM COORDINATE FROM AMS SERIES L7014, SHEET 6251 I.
