SIGNIFICANCE: THIS BRIEFIlVG BOARD DEPICTS A SALVAGID NORTH AMERICAN PRODUCED T-28 AT HANOI~GIA LAM AIRFIELD 2. BACKGROUND: THE UNITID STATES T-28, PRODUCED BY NORTH AMERICAN, WAS THE FIRST U.S. MILITARY TRAINER TO BE EQUIPPED WITH A TRICYCLE LANDING GEAR. ORIGINALLY DESIGNED AS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE T-6 THE FIRST OF TWO PROTOTYPES WAS FLOWN ON SEPTEMBER 26, 1949. THE TWO-PLACE T-28 IS A LOW-WING AIRCRAFT POWERED BY A SINGLE 1,425 H.P. RADIAL ENGINE. ITS MAXIMUM SPEED IS 346 M.P.H. AND CRUISING SPEED IS 250 M.P.H. THE ARMAMENT CONSISTS OF TWO 0.50-IN. GUNS. 3. MISSION READOUT: (REVEALS A SALVAGED T-28 IN AN AIRCRAFT REVETIKENT AT THE SOUTHEAST END OF THE NORTHWEST~SOUTHEAST RUNWAY. AN APPARENT ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO REASSEMBLE THE AIRCRAFT WITH MATERIALS AT HAND. THIS IS EVIDENT BY THE REPLACEMENT OF THE COWLING WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A PIECE OF SHEET METAL. THE FUSELAGE APPEARS TO BE GENERALLY INTACT, BUT THE RIGHT WING AND CANOPY ARE DAMAGED. These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work.
