THIS WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT LOGISTICAL SUPPORT AIRFIELD IN CENTRAL
NORTH VIETNAM. IT COULD SUPPORT TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS ON A SUSTAINED
BASIS AND COULD RECOVER JET FIGHTERS ON A LIMITED BASIS. IN THE PAST THIS
AIRFIELD HAS PROVIDED LOGISTIC SUPPORT TO BOTH PATHET LAO AND VIET CONG
FORCES.
2. LOCATION:
VINH AIRFIELD IS LOCATED 3..5 NM NORTH OF VINH AND JUST EAST OF ROUTE lA
THE MAIN NORTH~SOUTH HIGHWAY IN NORTH VIETNAM.
3. MISSION READOUT:
PHOTOGRAPHY FROM MISSION ALS THAT 25X1
THE APPROXIMA"T'ELY 6700 X 120 FOOT NATURAL SURFACE STRIP BETWEEN THE RUNWAY
AND TAXIWAY IS BEING REPAIRED. THIRTEEN OF THE SIXTEEN DITCHES WHICH DISSECTED
THE STRIP HAVE BEEN FILLED. TOTE SOUTHERN PORTION OF THE STRIP APPROXIMATELY
2,500 FEET IN LENGTH IS CAPABLE OF HANDLING LIGHT AIRCRAFT. MINOR REPAIRS TO
THE REMAINDER OF THE STRIP WOULD PROVIDE A POSSIBLE CAPABILITY OF SERVING
JET AIRCRAFT.

THIS STRIP WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE RUNWAY IS CRATERED AND UNSERVICEABLE.
