Approved For Release 2007/03/07: CIA-RDP79-00957A LAIGAAWA99i 2 SECRET JOURNAL OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL Friday - 27 December 1974 CJA INTERNAL USE ONLY 1. (Secret - LLM) Called Bill Cochrane, Staff Director, Senate Rules and Administration Committee, concerning a delicate case that had been referred to us by Senator Howard W. Cannon's (D. , Nev. office. Cochrane suggested we either speak to Chester Sobsey or Frank Krebs of Senator Cannon's personal staff. (I did not go into the details of the case or mention her name. ) A call was placed to Sobsey. 2. (Unclassified - GLC) John Goldsmith, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, called to ask if we could readily obtain from our records the number of times in the past Congress in which the Director or a senior Agency officer has met with the full Senate Armed Services Committee or the CIA Subcommittee. He said he thought this information would be useful for them to have in view.of the current controversy of legislative oversight and he said it would take some digging for them to get this out of their records, I told Goldsmith we kept a record of such briefings and it would not be difficult for us to provide him with a list, which I did. later in the day. Goldsmith also asked if we had any luck in tracking down anything on the ad he mentioned to me several days ago. I told him we were working on t is and as far as we could determine the ad was not connected with the Agency in any way. We are still checking on this to see if we have any information about the organization or the purpose of the ad which was directed at former CIA., NSA and DIA employees. 3. (Unclassified - GLC) By way of follow up to his discussions with egarding the recent New York Times article alleging that CIA maintained 10, 000 files on American citizens, I called Jim Kronfeld, Staff Counsel, House Government Operations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations and Government Information. The Director later talked with Chairman Moorhead on this subject. See Memo for the Record.
