MEMORANDUM FOR: Assistant Director for Research and Reports
SUBJECT : Request for Preparation of a Bulgarian
Gazetteer
1. In accordance with an a eement reached on 10 September
1954 by the Geographic
Division
it is requested that CRR prepare a gazetteer listing place-names
in Bulgaria by place, obshtina, okoliya, okrug, coordinates, and
former name.
2. The cards on which such a gazetteer is to be based are
being prepared and edited by FDD. Coordinates have already been
entered for four ok ugs. It is understood that of the remaining
eight okru s, (R will place the coordinates on four okrugs and

second portion of the gazetteer is to be an alphabetical listing
of all old names together with the corresponding new names. A
final, third section is to show the administrative breakdown of
Bulgaria by okrug, okoliya, and obshtina.
