Approved For Release 2094 -01041 A000100010022-0 SeCSECREI r 24 October 1952 1, Visited Bill Trueheart, Department of State, and discussed, at some length, the Draper-Chambers relationship and steps that might be taken 25X1A9a for - to meet the requests being made by Chambers for intelligence. Trueheart told me that Draper has channels established for the dissemination to him for military intelligence through Anderson, who receives it from General Handy, and for political intelligence which is disseminated by the Department in Washington. Trueheart sees no reason why - should be 25X1A9a called on to supply any intelligence to Chambers. Howard Furness has recently been transferred from the Department of State to Draper's staff where he will serve as assistant to Chambers in the intelligence field. Furness knows, in detail, the various types of intelligence available. Trueheart and I agreed to write, respectively, to Furness and to - 25X1A9a 25X1A requesting them to get together in_ and to determing the specific intelligence materials needed by Chambers and the channels through which it would be best to send them. On receipt of this recommendation, Trueheart and I will again get together to work it out, 2. Attended 0/CI noon briefing, 25X1A9a 3. Cable IN 47003 from MZr. Dulles,, states that he attended a meeting with - Chambers, Furness, and others, at which intelligence support for Chambers was discussed. Mr. Dulles states that he will discuss this on his return and meanwhile, no action is to be taken. On seeing this cable, I telephoned Bill Trueheart and suggested that he hold up communication to Furness as discussed in paragraph 1 above.
