It Lebanese coup seems to have been pretty well predicted and the
cables received during the night kept us well advised on developments, Apparently
the CIB went to bed after the first rumbles were received and did not include an
item on this. Do not consider it serious in-view of the ~,umerous previous pre-
dictions of this possible coup.
2. At the DCI meeting I brought up Captain Wrightts (R. N.) visit
next week in connection vrith the 5-power conference. DCI said to give him the
tied carpet" treatment3 mentioning a luncheon and the fact that he would like to
see him personally. I have alerted Sherman Kent, but have done nothing else,

6. D~DCI showed me the Gruenther correspondence and 2 suggested he

7. At D/DCI#s request, I furnished him with the research papers
listed below for possible transmission to certain governments. In selecting
these I used the same .criteria that were applied in considering exchanges with
