MINUTES OF OCH/G STAFF MEETING, 2 AUGUST 1951+
25X1A9a 1. reminded the group that the Career Staff Conference
is tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 at the Department of Agriculture
auditorium. Buses will leave M Bldg. at 3:00.
25X1A9a 2. reported that the historical summary of the
Geographic Area has been prepared and submitted to the AD/RR.
25X1A9a 3. - reported that is now being briefed for 25X1A9a
25X1C4a his assignment as to the Far East. Last week he was briefed
at the Library of Congress and at the Foreign Branch, CIA Library. 25X1C4a
Mr. Capella of the Department of State has asked the

from AMS after his debriefing.
5. The group discussed the new procedures for handling photostats.

A photostat quota of up to 200 sheets a day has been authorized the
Geographic Research Area by the Printing and Reproduction Division.
The photostats are to be completed by Reproduction within five working
days after the receipt of materials. All materials from D/GG, D/GP,
and D/GL will be sent to at the Washington Auditorium, who
will send them on to Repr uc on. The finished photostats, however,
will be returned from Reproduction directly to the requestor. The

specialized needs of D/GC will continue to be handled by
25X1A9a
but, whenever D/GC materials are to be sent to P&RD for Photostatting,
will check with to make sure that the quota for
25X1A9a
e Area is not being exceede .
6. The group discussed the problems involved in getting photographic
work done. It was agreed that a job involving both photostatting and
25X1A9a photographing will be treated like a straight photostat job and would
be routed through . All other requests for photographs,
however, will be handled as before, with coordinating 25X1A9a
the requests of D/GC, D/GG, and D/GP. There will be no shopping for
faster channels. Prints from the Graphics Register collection will be
requested through the usual Graphics Register channels. It was emphasized
25X1A9a that all requests for photography should be checked to see if a photostat
would be adequate. commented that the Map Library hasp-stat
machine that might save time on "crash" jobs.

25X1A9a 7. mentioned that the specifications for Urban Area
Studies have been developed and will need to be put into final shape
for transmittal to the Air Force.
25X1A9a 8. reported that an official invitation has been
received for representation from the Agency., as observers., on the
photogrammetric subcommittees of the JCS.
25X1A9a 9. announced that the Commission of the International
Society of Pho ogramrnetry will meet in Rome during September 1951+,
probably during the Congress of the International Union of Geodesy
and. Geophysics., from, the 15th to the 29th of September. Mr. Marshall
Wright., of Zeiss Aero-Topo, will represent the American Society of
Photogrammetry at the meeting. The ISP meeting will include discussions
on the present state of the application of photogrenmietry to cadastral
surveying., to mapping of urban areas, and to extensive small-scale
25X1A9a mapping. will notify of the meeting. 25X1A9a
25X1A9a 10. commented that the problem of making Air Force
intelligence materials, particularly AOF, available to the Geographic
Area needs further exploration.
25X1A9a 11. commented that he thought the Working Group of
the PRC had achieved good results to date.
25X1A9a 12. stated that Mr. Armstrong's office., Department
of State., had told him that - will be designated Special 25X1A9a
Assistant for Maps sometime this week.
25X1A9a 13. , commented on a recent article in the "Air
Intelligence S which analyzes the way the USSR has used overt
sources on U.S. technical developments to speed up Soviet technical
programs.
