1 Sanitized - Approv For Release : CIA-RDP79-010A000400010012-8 21D Y RAT FOR THE CARTOGRAPSY DIVISION Month. of January 1955 A. 4coo isbments The Cartography Division reports the completion of 51 saps and charts. Production *uPPOrted several components of the Agency as well as the Depart- ment of State and the Air Force. As in previous months, considerable effort was expended on the NIS program. Included were completions of 3 standard base maps, 2 of which were first revisions. Considerable support was given the DD?P, primarily via D/GG projects. In addition to the support given State for the NIS program, a significant map was prepared for a high level conference an Southeast Asian Solidarity. The considerable number of maps assigned to the Air Force consist of the final bases required for the special AJOIN project that has been underway for the past several months. During the same period, the Division accepted requests for 39 new maps and charts with ORR and 081 being the heavy requesters. The Special Support Branch reports the completion of the first series of 44 naps for the Air Force project with approxieately 6O more to be completed within the first two weeks of February. The Special Support Branch also accepted requests for 31 separate items of work while completing 28. The NIB Flap Coordinator had returned from reproduction 49 final NIS maps during the month, leaving 82 at the close of the reporting period. This represents a sizeable block of work through the reproduction plant. In summary, the Division can report a very active month both in regard to the number of requests and coupletions. The cartographic effort was in support of several components in CIA and to outside Agencies. At the close of the reporting period, 42 regular maps remdued in reproduction and. note should be taken of the fact that 43 maps were rerun during the period. This represents an unusually high number of reruns at the request of D/GL.. B. Coordination As a result of several informall, meetings, further efforts were mrde taward evaluating the requirements of the Division at the Agency Repository. A memo was prepared restating the requirements for offset press facilities and several, new items of equipment were ordered for storage at the Center. A meeting attended by members. of the logistics Office, GPO -State., D/B, and D/GC, reviewed, the problem of film positives and resulted in a possible solution to storage of NIS map negatives at the Records Center. The problem of the NIS negatives was primarily coordinated by D/B.
