STATEMENT OF MISSION AND FUNCTIONS
OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND REPORTS
The Assistant Director for Research and Reports is charged Frith:
conducting intelligence research; producing intelligence reports (excluding
scientific intelligence); and exploiting the intelligence research capa-
bilities of the Government and other facilities 'under approved Agency intelli-
gence production plans.
II. Functions
The Assistant Director for Research and Reports shall:
A. Formulate and recommend the intelligence research program
appropriate for inclusion in the Agency production plan. This program
shall provide for intelligence research in fields of common concern, for
intelligence research not exclusively within the fields of primary responsi-
bility of any single departmental intelligence agency, for intelligence
research support to Agency field operations, and to meet other Agency needs.
B. Conduct intelligence research and produce intelligence reports:
under approved Agency production plans; upon specific request of other
offices of the Agency and other authorized governmental departments and
agencies; and on his own initiative pending clearance and approval within
CIA. Such research and reporting activities shall embrace: those intelli-
gence fields of common concern, and those intelligence fields not exclusively

within the primary responsibility of any one departmental intelligence
agency,
C. Procure and coordinate intelligence information and research
support from governmental departments and agencies as necessary to
accomplish the research and reporting mission of the Agency.
D. Formulate and establish the necessary requirements, for his
Office, for transmittal through appropriate channels for collection
action,
E. Pro vide CIA collection offices and other governmental collection
agencies with such evaluations of their reports as may be requested.
F. Provide for centralized allocation and coordination of the
National Intelligence Surveys Program.
G. Provide a centralized facility for the procurement and produc-
tion of foreign geographic and map intelligence.
H. Study and develop techniques and methods relating to intelligence
research and reporting,
I. Recommend to the Assistant Director for Intelligence Coordination
on coordi,n-Ation matters relating to the production of national estimates.
