GENERAL Major Battles reported that the Interim Report on the island included in JANIS 77 area has been secured. Interim Report on JANIS 157 area has been requested and should be received in a day or two. Decision regarding Lt. Quam's suggestion to designate a chief of map pro- curement in JISPB has not been made pending recommendations by Capt. McCaskill. Major Battles stated that Major Spillers and Dr. Hunt will draw up a map (1:1,000,000) covering JANIS 75 area; several overlays for color printing of regions for possible airfield sites will be prepared by JISPB. Some recent photos of this area are being received which may be of possible use. Attention was invited to the fact that an officer's afternoon off is a privilege and not a right. The officer should not avail himself of this privi- lege when there is work to be done or when queries about his work may arise. If necessary, the exercise period should be postponed until a later date. The Chairman commended Captain Leonard Liberto for his excellent work while assigned to JISPB. 2. EDITORIAL Commander Clinton reported that; JANIS 73 is complete except for "Gazetteer and Map Appraisal" which should be sent to the printer soon. GEORGE H. KOUNTZ, Lt. Col., G.S.C., Secretary. Minutes of JISPB meeting (126th), 12 February 1945. JANIS 77 -- 4 chapters completed and several others almost ready. As of this date, work on this study is ahead of schedule. Lt. Van Kees reported that: Advance copies of Chapters III & XII, JANIS 73, due in JISPB on Saturday were delayed due to weather; however, these as well as Chapters VIII and XI should arrive tomorrow (13th), thus putting JANIS 73 about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. JISPB personnel for temporary duty at GARBERS will not be necessary as all work on JANIS 73 is now well in hand. GARBER plans to go to press with JANIS 77 about 20 February 45; 4 or 5 chapters should be ready about 12 March 45. Inserts being prepared by OSS will be ready 4 or 5 days before deadline date, therefore, no OSS truck deliveries to GARBER will be required. The reported loss of maps by OSS is still unexplained but ma delay the completion of Chapter X, JANIS 73. After dis- cussion, was directed to arrange for an immediate rerun of the missing material if not located by noon today, and to institute action to notify the proper OSS authorities of the possible security compromise. 4. PLANNING Lt. Quam reported that: JANIS 150 bibliography, together with Instruction Sheet, Outline Guide and base map, will be distributed to contributors this week. Meetings with G-2 and with Major Battles of K-2, relative to revision of the Outline Guide to facilitate reading of JANIS, are contemplated. The ( IMIC cannot furnish any climatic data for JANIS 75 in view of the recent change in officers. Plans are being made to secure data for JANIS 150.
