Interviewed Lt. Colonel Firer, USMC, Navy representative on JIS
Admiral Inglis agrees in principle with the transfer of JISPB
to CIG direction but believes that while this action is being
discussed, it is important to have JISPB actively developing
the assigned program.
The Navy has provided for 6 officers and civilians for the
JISPB editorial staff or the fiscal year 1947 but is only able
to supply 5 at the moment. Colonel Piper does not believe
that any further reduction is in prospect.
Navy contributors will be hard pressed to meet the publishing
program but with some rearrangement of priorities (in which
G-2 is also interested) it can be done unless too many special
additional demands are made.

Interviewed Colonel Walsh, who is chief of Air Estimates Branch,
A-2, and who was for a few months the AAF member of J. His branch
has the responsibility for directing the production of the air
chapter of JANIS. He does not have any responsibility for supplying
the personnel- to the JISPB staff.
He is very definitely of the opinion that the JANIS prosrram is
satisfactory now as it runs under direction of JIS, Jiff and JIC;
that JISPB has a lot of good-will and is getting excellent cooperation
from many agencies, and that he is at-ainst any change unless there is
some demonstrable improvement to be gained as a result of the chancre.
He sees no such demonstrable improvement at this time. The program
is within A-2 capabilities, for production, and the completed JANIS
studies are of some value.
