JANIS 72 JCS Declassification/Release Instructions on File
It seems proper that t.e Projects Committee should
be informed concerning .the Tsrogress of JINIS 72,
which has a deadline of 1 August 1945.
1. At the time a new JANIS is initiated the
Research Division concerned and the G erto--.
graphy Section agree on schedule when
the data for each map will be submitted
to the Cartography Section. This is
necessary in order to assure a reasonably
steady flow of maps through the Section.
Because of the pressure to produce a raxi-
mum of maps in the shortest possible
time, failure to meet the schedule results
in delayed deadlines to the JISPR.
The present JANIS consists of forty maps
and is, at the time of this writing, an
aggregate of eighty-four (84) man-days
behind schedule. This means that, if the
delay is transferred to the JISPR fourteen
maps will be delayed an average of seven
days. (The range in delay varies from one
to fourteen days on individual maps.) The
most serious aspect of this situation is
the lack of calendar days remaining prior
to the deadline.
It appears unlikely that the Cr rtogr~ephy
Section will be able to "make-up" this
handicap before the 25th of July when the
last map is due at reproduction.
Every effort is being made to compensate
for this situation by diverting personnel
from one unit to enother and by means of
considerable overtime.
