0 00 Ped For Releasf000/08/29: CIA-RDP79-01147A00020 0 ? Rai e Memorandum ? UNITED STATES GO RN SENT Lt. Ed, Ullman, USNR FROM VIA SUBJECT: James Chandler J G John B. Appleton JMJIS coverage of E`elecoiaunicstions DATE: 17 February 1945 Materials on fixed telecomltiunications facilities have regularly been included in Chapter VII of JAMS studies. This coverage includes land telephone, land telegraph, radiotelephone,.radiotelegraph, submarine cable, and radio broadcasting to the extent that these services are available to the general public. Several other subjects are related directly or indirectly to telecommunications, and it has'hot always been clear which chapter or chapters should bear prime responsibility for them. It is suggested that these might be covered as follows: Land lines for military use. Chapter XII (specific lines); Chapter VII (general pattern of lines). Radio for milita use. Chapters XII and XIV (specific installations Radar, RDF, and radio beaming. Chapters XII and XIV. Replacement parts. Chapter VII. P :ianufacturing. Chapter IX; brief mention in Chapter VII. Ownership and administration. Chapter VII. Use of radio as a propaganda medium. Chapter X. Effect of climate and weather on transmission. Chapter V. At the discretion of Chapter supervisors, these subjects might also be included in such chapters as IV, VI, VII, VIII, XII, XIII, and XIV. It is felt that strictly temporary facilities, such as mobile field equipment, need not be included in JANIS except in unusual cases.
