At the end of 1944, the Chairman of the Joint Topographical Subcommittee, with the full concurrence of his committee colleague*, wishes to invite the attention of the members of the joint intelligence Committee to the fact that the JANIS schedule for production, despite many difficulties (including eating and such physical factors as printing and distribution), has been met with few unimportant exceptions. in addition, priorities have been conformed to, including some rather sub- stantial changes in schedule occasioned by the exigencies and vicissitudes of the war's progress, and in many instances deadlines have been anticipated. ? 2. The Joint Intelligence Study Publishing Board is charged with the preparation of JANIS under the direction of the Joint Topographical Subcommittee. The Beard as wellhas assisted often and substantially in the preparation of first, and second phase reports?matters not primarily under the cognisances of the J.I.3.1).13., but for which the rich experiences Of its members have well qualified them. 3. There has been abundant evidence, both official and unofficial, from the Pacific Ocean Areas that testifies to the valuable contribution made by the JANIS products to the prosecution of tho war throughout the Pacific. It would be impossible to cite the individual contributions that have been made to the JANIS publications. Text has been written and re- 'written throughout all echelon; of the Intelligence Services of the Navy, the Army, the Office of Strategic servioea and contributory intelligence organizations. It would be impracticable to list the many individuals who essembly, select and refine the end product.
