Approved For Release 2001/08/26 : CIA-RDP79-01147#400200020053-7 OFFICE OF STRATEGIC SERVICES WASHINGTON, D. C. MEMORANDUM 16 May 1944- T o -, 25X1A From: Projects Committee Subject. Recommendation Concerning Responsibility Lines in Janis Publications. The Committee has received a memorandum from the Far East Division urging strongly that in each of the chapters of the Janis that are issued separately there should be a specific statement indicating the immediate source of the material, namely, the agency primarily responsible for submitting the draft of that chapter. The Committee unanimously supports this recommendation and urges that it should be presented to the proper authorities f rn instructions to the JISPB. The Janis publication on any area is issued in chapters that are bound separately and may circulate separately. Each of these carries a title, "Joint Army- Navy Intelligence Study", but only on the first chapter is there any indication of any work produced by OSS. Further, the reader is, in any case, ignorant as to the immediate source for each chapter. Our specific suggestion is that each chapter should display either at the beginning or end of its table of contents a statement worded somewhat as follows: "Edited and published by the Joint Intelligence Study Publishing Board from draft submitted by the Office of Strategic Services (or the Office of Naval Intelli ence etc.)." g s It is our understanding from Lieutenant that the Janis Board has decided that hereafter maps and photos will carry the serial numbers and responsibility lines of the offices submitting them in order that interested agencies may be able to order separate copies directly.
