December 1946
1. This memorandum is an addendum to reference 3.
2. Discussion of the JANIS priority list with the Joint Staff
Planners brought out a need for some revision of the list, and the
Director JISPB was asked to make recommendations.
3. The icliowing changes are recommended:
a. That JANIS 45, Boar and Jan Mayen islands and JANIS 46
Spitsbergen Archipelago be dropped and JANIS 47, The
North Polar Area be substituted as suggested in
reference 3.

o. That the boundaries far JANIS 57, Trans Ural USSR,
and JANIS 67, Northeastern Siberia, be revised to
,correspond with political and economic units as shown
n attached map and that the name for JANIS 67 be
changed to Eastern Siberia, U.S.S.R. to agree with
Russian usage.
d. That a JANIS on kareastern 8iber . (JANIS 63)
be added which will combine and revise JANIS 73,
Southeastern 6iberia? JANIS 78 Kanchatka, JANIS 79
Sakhalin, and JANIS 80 Kurile Islands. JANIS 63 will
then supersede JANIS 73, 78, 79 and 80 which are
inadequate in the light of captured documents now
available.
