Subject: Brief of JANIS Chapters,

1. To insure accuracy and to facilitate the production of
JANIS publications, it is requested that each contributor submit a
condensation of his chapter for inclusion in Brief (Chapter I).
2. The Brief is not to be a duplication of topic "General
Description" which introduces each chapter. General Description
should introduce this individual chapter and point out the nature
of the problem, method of approach, etc, The Brief should be a
full summary of the chapter, giving essential facts.. Important
maps, illustrations and tables appearing elsewhere in the JANIS
may be repeated in Chapter I, and Brief should contain a reference
to them.
3. An estimate of the quantity and nature of the material
desired for each topic of Brief can be determined by examination
of Chapter I of JANIS 157. Any question with reference to this
procedure should be referred to the appropriate members of the
Board.
4. It is further requested that each contributor acknow-
ledge receipt of this memorandum and indicate ability to comply
with request.
