Short title. Hereafter JANIS of an area will be referred to by number. The JANIS of the first country in the left hand column on the priority list will be JANIS No. 38; the second country, JANIS No. 26; th'e third country, JAN IS No. 25; and the fourth country, J,-N IS No. 6. Numbers on future studies will be issued when the studies are started. 2. Place names, JANIS No. 38, 26 will be used as given on the set of G.S.G scale of 1/250,000, and reproduced by the coverage is not available (northern parts of JANIS 25) the R.A.F. 1/500,000 will be and 2 . Spellings of place names maps covering the countries, Array Map Service. Where such map of JANIS 38 and 26 and nearly all used. Names to be used which are . not. given on those .standard sets (those on hydrographic charts, etc.) are to be submitted for decision to the Board on Geographical Names with reference to the source from which the name was taken. Each JANIS will contain a glossary of names including: (1) Those with spelling variations on the 1/250,000, the 1/500,000, and the hydrographic charts; .??. (2) Those used in text and not shown en the 1/250,000 or the 1/500,000; and (3) Those shown on the 1/250,000 or 1/500,000 which are commonly used in conventional form or are not spelled on the map according to Board on Geo- graphical Names official decisions. 3. Preparation of text. 1 original (on heavy paper), and 3 copies (on onion skin) should be prepared on 8 by 12k-inch paper. Triple spaoin8 and indentations should be made as shown on the attached Sample Page of JANIS text. Paragraphs should be complete on each page where practicable. Bibliographic system. Each chapter submitted to the JISPB shall include a bibliography prepared according to the Sample Page of JANIS Bibli- ography attached. This is the style followed by the Govt. Printing Office in government publications. Numbering of references will start over with each chapter.
