Subject: Security Check on the Board on Geographical Names.
1. ? It is requested that a security check be made on the
Board on Geographical Names, the official agency for spelling of
place names.
a. The Board on Geographical Names, located in New
Interior Bldg., Interior Ext. 734, Director: Dr. Meredith F.
Burrill, operates on War Department funds*
b. Since February 1943 The Board on Geographical Names
has been supplying G-2, War Department and Army Map Service with
the type information needed in the Joint Army and Navy Intelligence
Studies.
2. In preparing Joint Army and Navy Intelligence Studies,
the Joint Intelligence Study Publishing Board desires to check with
the Board on Geographical Names the spellings of place names, in order
to accomplish standardization of all names used in these studies.
3. When the security of the Board on Geographical Names is
approved, it will be represented at all planning meetings of Joint
Army and Navy Intelligence Studies.
