The Office of Basic and Geographic Intelligence is in the
process of developing Its operating budget for FY 1969 and es-
timating funds required for FY 1970. As you are aware, we
plan to discontinue production of Section 44 (Manpower) and,
in its place, provide somewhat expanded coverage of the subject
in Section 4 (Sociological) of the General Survey. Considering
the transitory nature of the subject, it is anticipated that the more
frequently updated General Survey will provide a better vehicle
for the manpower coverage and that some savings in production
effort can be realized. Details on the scope and content of the
expanded contributions to be produced by your department are
being developed by this agency in coordination with your office.
