Elimination of the contract with Agriculture/ERS would deny
the NIS 4the support of the old-line Government department with primary
responsibility for following food and agriculture developments, world-wide.
This represents one of the most important single element for analyzing
and understanding the well-being, economic conditions, and development
prospects of the great majority of developing countries; it is therefore
a high priority topic in the NIS Program -- both for the General Survey
(for which OER and OCI take their information in largest part from
previous Agriculture NIS publications) and for the more detailed sections
produced directly by ERS. Loss of this contract could not be made up
for by present OER and OCI staffs - which no longer maintain competence
on these subjects for non-Communist countries.
Quality:
ERS' contributions uniformly reflect a complete search of
the data available at the time of writing and include full and accurate
descriptions of the production and distribution of all principal food and
agricultural products, with related prospects and problems.
