Planned budget
FY 69 - Section 62 (Fuels) non-Communist
Section 63 (Minerals and Metals)
non-Communist)
Elimination of NIS on fuels, minerals, and metals, would
result in a serious loss in NIS coverage of these highly strategic
topics which are of major national security interest for a
minimum of 25 foreign countries. Detailed routinely-maintained
information on petroleum is not otherwise covered in publications
available to the intelligence community. Statistics on minerals
taw
and metals, however, would presumably continue to be available
in the Minerals Yearbook published by the same staff. Further,
DIA'as a contributor of the construction materials portion would
be vitally concerned in any prospective cutback of coverage.
QUALITY:
Contributions from Interior have generally been
satisfactory from the standpoint of accuracy and presentation, but
adherence to schedules has been irregular.
