Sanitized -Approved For Rele, &LWDP79-O"54AO001 May 1970 MEI'DRANDUM FOR: Director of Basic and Geographic Intelligence SUBJECT Anticipated Increase in OSR's Requirements for Support 1. The Office of Strategic Research has been, I am told, one of the most demanding of the com- ponents served by the Current Intelligence Branch of Cartography Division. Finished OSR Intelligence Reports and Memorandums, current intelligence publi- cations, and external briefings have all been well illustrated with complex and rapidly changing maps, charts, and other material. It is in the nature of the subjects for which OSR is responsible that graphic material makes an important contribution to the pre- sentation of our work. 2. I have always been pleased with the quick response, imaginative work, and high quality provided by the Current Intelligence Branch and the other com- ponents of Cartography Division upon which we so often draw. We have placed heavy demands and they have been met. 3. As I look ahead, I am keenly aware that our needs for support will increase substantially in the coming months if OSR is to continue to have the kind of visual material in its publications which has made such a contribution to the quality of the finished product. The amount of research OSR is doing is in- creasing. At the same time increasing demands for ad hoc support are being levied on this office. And OSR has new responsibilities in the preparation of NIEs on military subjects. These NIEs will be in a new format which will call for increased use of graphic material. In short, we are probably going to need more of the excellent support OBGI has provided during the three years of OSR's existence. I believe we should have our people come together now to plan and thus to insure the best match between OSR needs and OBGI resources in the future. My special assistant, is prepared 25X1A9a to meet with your representative at any time. 25X1A BRUCE C.
