Definition - A digital file of world coastlines, international bound-
aries and selected rivers, lakes, and cities that can be recalled for
automatic plotting in varying scales and projections.
Assumptions
1. The system should be designed to keep processing time to a
minimum.
2. Points closer together than the minimum plottable increment
can be suppressed by the plotter or the computer.
Design.
I., All planimetry will be defined by sets of coordinate points
arranged in line segments.
2. The line segments will be randomly numbered and filed by con-
tinents.
3. All line segments will terminate at international boundaries.
4. Offshore islands will be associated with continents.
5. Line segments will be accessed either by direct request or
look up tables arranged by continent, country, scale family, and type
of line segment.
6. Scale families will determine selection of cities, lakes,
islands, and rivers. An example of a possible scale family arrange-
ment is as follows:
