SUBJECT : Translation of Article Revealing Finnish Communist
Plans to Use Eastern Trade for Political Purposes
1. Attached for information of the EDAC community is a literal
translation of portions of a statement reportedly made by Ville
Pessi, secretary-general of the Finnish Communist Party at a secret
conference of Nordic Communists on 21 March 1953 in Oslo. This
statement appeared in an article in the Finnish newspaper jhM1
of 6 March 1954. The newspaper attributed the report to reliable
sources, but no further indication of its validity and accuracy is
available. An article in The American Legion Magazine of September
1954 by Victor Lasky entitled "Russivo Golden Bullet" quoted portions
of this newspaper article.
2. This translation was prepared in CIA at the request of I+MDAC
and is brought to the attention of EDAC as further evidence of the
manner in which the Communists intend to exploit East-West trade for
political purposes. Such information is directly relevant to the
current study of Soviet trade tactics and, although transmitted under
CONFIDENTIAL cover, may be used in MDAC public reports,,
