appreciation for the initiative shown in preparing the first kmual
Report of the Intelligence Working Group., The conanenta coLleh+ d
from the members Of the EC indicate that your report was well :-eceived.
The concise statements of the authority, organisation, purpose,
responsibilities, and accomplishments of the I,iG will be useful for
general briefing purposes and appear to follow the earlier stita ment
of IWG procedures (EDAC D-48) The extensive lists of IWG caa3s and
intelligence contributions reflect the high value of the LO tai the
EDAC operation.
The Executive Committee was appreciative of the IWG Chairnanes
statement that the IWG was ready for fuller utilization by the EDAC
structure., Particular notice was taken of the statement, an PI Pe 4
of the TWG Annual Report, referring to the new arrangements fo:,.-
procuring, current intelligence.
Attention was directed in the report to two problems of c=nncero
to the Executive Committee members. I believe it would be of 'ialue
to the Executive Committee if the IfG would submit for conside:ation
by the Executive Committee a statement of these problems to et'ter with
its recommendations for corrective action, viz.:
l,- Inadequate priorities for the collection of economic defense
information,
2? Undue delay in the transmission of economic defense i=iformation
() from the field to Washington and (b) from the point of ini`:ial
receipt in Washington to interested intelligence and action of ficee,,
