UPI received an anonymous call from a Span- ish-speaking male who said the explosion was the work of Domin- ican exiles and was timed to coincide with the celebration of the eighth anniversary of the Dominican Republic revolt. There were no personnel injuries or damage. to U.S. Govern- ment facilities. (UNCLASSIFIED) A letter bomb mailed from the Netherlands in September 1972 was received by the Israeli Con- sulate. The letter was addressed to the Israeli Ambassador, who is accredited to Bolivia but actual- ly resides in Lima, Peru. A Bolivian bomb squad opened the letter without an explosion. The Trotskyite People's Revolutionary Army later claimed responsibility for the attack. (UNCLASSIFIED) On 1 May, unidentified persons kidnapped the son of the Swiss Chairman of both the Italo- Argentine Electric Company and a new Italian bank. A ransom of $1.S million was paid by the fami- ly and the victim was freed un- harmed on 4 May. (UNCLASSIFIED) Two Lebanese army enlisted men were kidnapped by Arab guer- rillas in an attempt to obtain the release of nine guerrillas detained by Lebanese authori- ties. (See separate article.) (UNCLASSI- FIED) 2 May 1973 Beirut, Lebanon Rockets were fired at the U.S. Ambassador's residence but caused no damage or personal casualties. This was in connec- tion with the Lebanese Army- fedayeen fighting. (UNCLASSIFIED) 2 May 1973 Barcelona, Spain Two fire bombs were thrown at ran American Airlines offices breaking all the windows and causing considerable smoke damage. British European Airways offices suffered a similar attack on 1 May, but it is not known if the two incidents are related.
