British Businessman Released by Argentine Kidna~~ers
Charles Agnew Lockwood, the British busine:~sman who was
kidnapped in Buenos Aires on 6 June, was released on 29 July
after the financial firm Roberts and Company, ojE which Lock-
wood is board chairman, agreed to pay the two m:i:llon dollars
demanded by~the kidnappers. Over the past month different
factions of the Trotskyist People's Revolutionary Army (ERP)
have alternately claimed and denied responsibility for the
kidnapping. According to a Reuter report, informed sources
in Argentina said negotiations over Lockwood's release were
delayed because he had been kidnapped from his original abduc-
tors by a rival faction of the ERP. (For background on the

Bandera Roja Leader Captured by Venezuelan Authorities
The leader of the urban guerrilla group Bandera Roja.
(BR), Carlos Betancourt, and a fellow member were captured by
Venezuelan security agents in Caracas on 29 July.., Two BR
print shops were also uncovered. In the opinion of a senior
security official, the arrests mean extinction for'the BR.
