Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/08/15: CIA-RDP79B01709A001400050017-4 Nor 6 November 1973 COMIREX Special Investigations to Support Imagery Mix Study 1. There are a number of special investigations which will need to be undertaken to shed light on the main areas of concern in the imagery mix study. Many of these will be based on work which has been under way in various components for some time. 2. Selected Case Studies Involving High Resolution Imagery. Community components should be asked to identify and provide specific examples of intelligence problems which have been attacked by means of high resolution imagery?in this instance, without regard to the source of imagery. These examples would be subjected to detailed analyses concerning the major factors bearing on the derivation of significant intelligence. a. Each example will contain a statement of the intelligence problem addressed by the imagery and the degree to which information needs are satisfied by the imagery obtained. b. The quality of the initial imagery and the acquisition conditions will be documented and classified. The data obtainable from the input imagery will be identified. The incremental information obtainable through various enhancement processes will also be identified and classified. c. Gaps in information for each case study will be identified together with an analysis of the role which additional imagery might play in satisfying the identified need and the quality required. In those instances where sequential photography, or multiple aspects photography, is involved, an evaluation will be made of the relative importance of quality per se per photograph vs. the importance of other factors such as aspect, multiplicity of coverage, scale, etc. Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/08/15: CIA-RDP79B01709A001400050017-4
